Ridley

(Ahlma and Cheyan too!)

But here's a Ridley post.
I originally came up with a Ridley character a few years ago back when I was dabbling with a chat based role playing game in the Final Fantasy Tactics realm of Ivalice.
Ridley von Clayborne. She was a Dark Knight who succumbed to a vampire... and thus, was a blood sucker. I don't recall what exactly happened during the course of the game. But I do remember someone got angry and posted an angry journal entry about how vampires do not exist in the Final Fantasy Tactics realm ...

Think about that for a second.

Anyway. I stowed Ridley for awhile after that game. I brought her back when I resumed writing for Cheyan. She became Cheyan's best and childhood friend. At this point, I ditched the vampire edge (Twilight came out about this time.)

Ridley was not intended to be fully human.. or as I call them now, Syrtian.
So, she had elfish ears.

I soon took a comic course at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. A perfect place for me to start drawing for this idea! After a few revisions I came up with a solid idea for demonesque species known as the varachians.
Ridley would be ousted as one by her kin at the end of this short comic.
I haven't looked back at that comic until now...

*Cough* It's pretty bad.
Anyway.

I contemplated continuing that comic but fell flat a few times. So I decided to start it again. And I did.
I didn't get too far, however... and about this time I really got interested in War for Arcadia.

But here are the three comic pages that I didn't get too far with.. but overall, I like how they were coming along.

And so. I started with WfA. At first, I was just going to use my primary character, Cheyan. But then I got this crazy idea of including Ridley. But I tied in the varachian concepts with her and POOF! She had horns, wings and a tail! Easily a favorite character of mine.

Inspired by the AWESOME Ben!

AHHHH!!!!

I would do the same upon seeing these two characters. (Dr. Axius and Big Head)

From our current comic battle. You can see it in the link just below this line!
The comic battle!

Anyway. Just wanted to say. I am proud of how far I have achieved in regards to drawing comics. I still have a long way to go to match the talents of those I admire.

Mindset: Cherrywood

These two panels were flipped. It makes more sense to me.

Drawing corn makes me want to have some roasted corn. I can't have corn right now. Sigh.

5/27 Comic Sketch

Edit x2: There we go. Next is the background and trying to remember the best way to create word bubbles in PhotoChop. It's a pain...

Yeehaw! It's back! I am continuing the comic! I may cop out and do the rest on the wacom. It would be easier for me to do. I completely did the colored Ridley at the start on the tablet. The brush I am using matches a graphite pencil. Most of the inking is done with the pen tool. The smaller details are penciled in.

Whatchya think?

A splash of color.

I wanted to add color to this but I did not have the time to do so.
So here goes. I don't really want to fully color everything. I think I'm just going to highlight the important details.

Runic Knights #001

Xposted on my DeviantArt page. I just got a subscription this morning. Might as well take advantage of it! ( http://ragchow.deviantart.com )

Note: Not as finished as I would like it to be. There are still things that needs to be tweaked. Most notably is the lettering/fonts.
I also would love to color this. I'll get to doing that soon.

Sketch

Click for full-view.

I decided to jump ahead and work on my own comic before I finished my school work. (Dumb-ass move because I have so much to do.)
I didn't ink anything yet. I mostly rough everything before I scan and digitally ink. Scanning 14 x 17" bristol is a bitch but do-able. It'll be tough adjusting to traditionally inking this but I must learn the proper way.
After posting this I'm going to re-draw my accident comic assignment. I am not happy with the way it looks now. The first time was really a practice run anyway and I know I can improve drastically.
I don't know how much time I will spend on it tonight. Kind of feeling sick from the Whiskey I downed earlier. Bleeeegh!
But I will resume work tomorrow evening after work and a family function. Sunday is looking promising. My family is home this weekend and they could take care of the puppy.
Puppy sitting is a complete distraction from drawing. It's a chore... and I wish it wasn't my responsibility during the week days when I have so much free time to be working on the comic stuff. Very frustrating.

Oh well. Abby's just a puppy!

Sick

Bummed that I took a leave of absence from last night's Comic class.
Really wish that I went but.. whatever I have is brutal.

I feel a bit better though after much sleep and tea.
I'll try to see if I can make it to tonight's model class.

Anyway. Here is an older sketch.
I did this last year when I was holed up in the ticket booth. I tend to get a lot of sketches done there. I'd like to redo it mostly because of a few redesigns and the actions don't really flow as well if this were to be a comic panel.

Hey look. Train sketch! Arm's a bit too long there.

Losing Lisa

There's nothing more adorable than having a puppy fall asleep in your arms.

Renegotiation has started between my drawing buddy and myself. New rules apply to our deal.

Comic panel test. Back to hand drawn goodness.
Feels good, man.
